Northern California Collaborative

The LSCP Northern California Collaborative (LSCP NCC) is a cooperative effort between the LSCP and six Northern California law schools to create and support a network of solo and small firm practitioners who are alumni of the LSCP Member Law Schools and who are dedicated to providing accessible and affordable legal services to low and moderate income Northern California communities. The creation of the LSCP NCC marks the first time law schools have come together to form an organization specifically geared to increasing access to legal services.

The LSCP NCC Member Law Schools are:

• University of California Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall)
• Golden Gate University School of Law
• University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law
• University of San Francisco School of Law
• Santa Clara University School of Law
• Stanford Law School

LSCP NCC Member Law Schools will offer joint courses for NCC Member Practitioners and law students that are targeted to improving the provision of legal services to low and moderate income communities. Examples of potential courses are: “Law Office Management for the Solo and Small Firm Practitioner,” “Developing a Predatory Lending Practice,” “Solo and Small Firm Practice in a Community Setting,” and “Child Advocacy Practice.” NCC Member Law Schools will also make it a priority to model solo and small firm social justice practice as a viable career option for their law students.

The LSCP NCC will connect the NCC Member Practitioners in an online community where they can receive peer mentorship and support, access substantive information, and share case referrals. A listserv will act as a forum to share experiences, successes, challenges, and practice tips. LSCP NCC Member Law Schools will also host CLE trainings and community events for Member Practitioners in Northern California.

The LSCP NCC will feature many resources and benefits for its Member Practitioners, including technical assistance, access to law libraries, community education opportunities, and discounts on services needed by a viable legal practice, such as malpractice insurance, legal software, and legal research databases.

Finally, the LSCP NCC will work with local and regional organizations, including bar associations, legal services, community organizations, lawyer referral services, foundations, and local corporations to provide further resources and benefits to LSCP NCC Member Practitioners.
